Laughter in Games

Welcome to another post! Thank you for joining us today. Today’s category is games. Now, who doesn’t like playing games? It could be video games, board games, card games, etc. I love games. Not only are they fun, but the majority of the time it provides great entertainment which provides hours of laughter. I do enjoy going out, hanging with my friends and family. But to be perfectly honest, I would be happy just staying in playing games… and making fool of myself in front of friends and family, NOT in public.

I have played games over the years where I have laughed so hard, I cried. I’m sure we’ve all had those moments some time in our lives, right? I’ve laughed so hard I would fall to the floor (not fallen off a chair from what I can remember). Rolling on the floor laughing? Yes, I’ve done that too. That brings me to a game I loved playing as a kid… Aladdin: The Magic Carpet Game. The game was made for 2-4 players.

It has been many years since I’ve played that game, let alone seen it. The game had a spinner in the middle of the board, if I’m remembering correctly, that had the magic carpet on the end of it. I believe the magic carpet could hold up to 4 characters on it. I don’t remember what the object of the game was, my favorite part was just spinning the magic carpet. On the carpet it had these little things on it, to help keep your character pieces on.

Instead of dice to take your turn, you would spin the Magic Carpet spinner, that had a little weight near the handle of where you would spin it. The board had 8 scenes, from the movie, on it. Each scene is where you would find some trouble, so you would need to rescue them, by playing a rescue card (only if you could). You had a choice out of 4 characters: Aladdin, Jasmin, Abu, or Raja. Genie was available for each player, if they needed some help, and he would grant them three wishes.

As I mentioned earlier, my favorite part was spinning the magic carpet. I bet you’re wondering why. Well, I don’t remember how long my family and I had owned the game, but after a while, toys/games start to fall apart. We must have played this game quite a bit, because there was a character piece that WOULD NOT stay on the magic carpet. Abu! Poor Abu. Anytime someone would take their turn to spin the magic carpet, poor Abu would go FLYING off the carpet. It was so funny. Sure, it would get a little frustrating, because you’re trying to play the game, and darn Abu just wouldn’t stay on.

I think there were times in my childhood where I didn’t really want to play the game. I’m sure there were times when all I wanted to do was sit on the floor of my room, put Abu on the magic carpet, and spin it to watch him go flying. I would laugh so hard every time he would fly off. To this day I’m still unsure of why Abu was the only character that would fly off the carpet. It could have been because he was the smallest… but I don’t know. We might still have that game around somewhere, but if we don’t, I’d like to track it down somehow and own it again.

Isn’t it interesting how one game can turn into a completely different one, just by having something go hilariously wrong? I love family game nights, well any time there is a gathering of any group people, and we play games. It turns into hours of not just fun, but laughter… which makes it that much more fun and memorable. Anything can happen! You can misread a card, hear something you would least expect from someone, not understand what someone is drawing, watching a plastic toy fly off the game board. Either way it makes for great fun, great memories, and a whole lot of laughter.

Thank you for joining us today! Until next time… be safe and take care.
