What the Heck is That?

Hello and welcome! I’m so glad you could join us today. If you’ve been a follower, welcome back. If you’re just joining us, welcome! Glad to have you! Today’s category is games. It’s a game I enjoy playing. It’s also a really good party game, but it’s still fun even with 3 or 4 people. The game today is Pictionary! If anybody has played Draw Something on their smartphone or tablet, it’s a lot like that, but you use a whiteboard or an easel. If I remember correctly, it is a board game and that’s how you determine what the category is that you’re supposed to draw. However, that is not how we played… house rules.

The way we play, since there were only about 4 of us playing at a time, we would each take turns picking a card from the box, choosing one of the words on the card to draw, then everyone else would try to guess what you were drawing. Before you ask, no we did not keep score. We really just wanted to play for the fun and entertainment of it, that we didn’t want to split into teams or keep score. It was a game we loved playing if we wanted a good laugh because neither one of us could draw very well, but we always gave it our best shot. I know I can’t draw, maybe only a few things but they’re not great. So, a lot of the time when I play Pictionary, I have to use stick figures or use something else and try and see if I can link the pictures together, kind of like the emoji game.

Pictionary is a fun game to play. It is most certainly entertaining. I feel like every time I play, no matter who it’s with (family or friends), we always break out in laughter. We laugh because we have no clue what the person in drawing, or we laugh because our guesses are absolutely outrageous. Either way, we have a good time playing. Anytime I think of Pictionary I always think of the time I played with my family. We were doing a family game night and we opted to play Pictionary. I don’t remember how long we had been playing, but it was my mom’s turn to pick a card and draw one of the words from that card. She picked a word and started to draw. My dad, brother, and I had no clue what she was trying to do. We guessed it was some kind of animal, but not exactly sure what.

I can’t remember who said it, it might have been me, but I guessed “Miss Piggy!” The guess was wrong. I forgot to mention that we also don’t play with a timer. We draw until we guess it right or until we decide we’ve been guessing too long and give up. Anyway, my mom kept drawing. Now this animal she was drawing kind of looked like it had a nose of a pig, but that’s not the animal it was. It turned out that we weren’t supposed to guess the animal. The word we needed to guess had to do with the animal she was drawing. I can still picture the white board, in my head.

Am I keeping you in suspense? I apologize. Anyway, the animal that she was drawing, or attempting to draw, was a horse. She was trying to get us to guess the word “bridle”. Bridle? Really? How the heck are you supposed to draw the word “bridle”? In my opinion the only option is to draw a horse with a bridle on it. This is one of the most memorable moments that I’ve ever had playing Pictionary. I remember that we all were laughing so hard. I’m pretty sure I was literally rolling on the floor laughing… and laughing so hard I was crying. I think we laughed at that for a long time. We still laugh about it to this day, whenever someone brings it up. If anybody says the word “bridle” we know what they’re referencing, and we start laughing.

This game is so much fun to play, I can’t say it enough. Hilarity ensues whether we’re guessing or drawing. It’s always so entertaining. I haven’t played in a long time, but I would love to play it again soon. I think it’s a great party game. What do you think? Of course, it can turn into a loud game rather quickly, especially when everybody is trying to guess the drawing, all at once. Then after that when everybody is roaring with laughter. But that just means we’re all having fun and enjoying ourselves. So, that’s a good thing. The next time you want to play a good party game, bring out the whiteboards or the paper easels and play Pictionary. Heck, you may even want to create your own version. Have people at a party write down a word on a piece of paper, put them all in a hat then pick one out of the hat when it’s your turn to draw. However you decide you want to play the game I hope you have fun doing it.

Thank you for joining us today. We look forward to seeing you again soon. Happy drawing!
