Hey everybody! Welcome back for another post. Today we’ll be talking about games. This post will actually be the first time I discuss a video game. Today’s video game is Spyro the Dragon. Spyro was released in the United States in September of 1998 by Sony PlayStation. Spyro is a purple dragon with a yellow chest, yellow wings, a yellow Mohawk, and yellow horns.
Spyro is a 3D platform game. You play as the title character and you go on an adventure to collect gems, rescue dragons, and retrieve the stolen dragon eggs. There are 6 worlds and 30 levels (5 levels in each world). There is a bonus 31st level if you get 100% in the game. That means if you collect all the gems, rescue all the dragons, and retrieve all dragon eggs, you get 100%. So, there is the potential to finish/complete the game with 120%.
Of all the 30 levels in the game, my brother and I agreed on 5 levels that we thought were difficult. There are 3 levels from the 4th world (Beast Makers). The levels are: Misty Bog, Tree Tops, and Wild Flight. Then we agreed on 2 levels from Dream Weavers, which is the 5th world, Lofty Castle and Haunted Towers. We also agreed that the Dream Weavers world was the most difficult of the 6, overall.
Now, there is one level in the game that I have a problem with. It’s not so much the difficulty of the level, but how it practically traumatized me as a kid. I was 9 years old when the game came out. The level that scared me was High Caves from the Magic Crafters world. In this level there are these metal scorpion looking things with pinchers. Well, at 9 years old I thought they were giant metal spiders with pinchers. I was so scared. I panicked . I was so scared that I started to sweat. I’m in my 30s now and that level still scares the crap out of me!
There is another level I have a hard time with. This time it has to do with difficulty and perhaps strategy. The level is called Icy Flight and it can be found in the Dream Weavers world. Every time I think I’m going to pass the level something happens. Most of the time it’s because I keep flying into a darn lighthouse, either right before I light it or right after. Because I hit the lighthouse I either fall into the water and die or I lose so much time trying to get back on track. The flight levels are all timed.
I will say this… my favorite thing about the game, other than the adventure itself, is the sound. Well, really the sound effects that the creatures/characters make. You have the egg thief that does this “na-na-na-na-na, you can’t get me” kind of thing, but you also have these other creatures that make these funny sounds right before and after you torch/charge at them. Do you feel like going on a new adventure? If you do, try going on an adventure with the purple dragon.
Thank you for joining me today. I hope to see you all again soon. Take care.
