Hey everybody! I hope you are all doing well and had an enjoyable weekend. Here we are. We are back for another post. Today’s topic is games. More specifically, we’ll be talking about the game “Apples to Apples”. It is a game my family and I like to play whenever we get together. When we first got the game, we followed the instructions. After we had the game for a while, we decided to change it up a bit. We started making “house rules”. Do I remember what the “house rules” are? Unfortunately, I don’t. For me, the line is blurred between “house rules” and the actual rules of the game.
Before we begin, let me briefly describe the game. I’ll describe it to the best of my ability. First, the red cards are shuffled. Everyone playing is dealt a certain number of cards. The number varies depending on how many players there are. The less players there are, the more cards are dealt. The more players there are, the less cards dealt. Next is knowing who gets to pick/judge first. It’s usually the player who is the youngest. However, in my family it’s whoever wants to go first. Whoever the first judge is, they pick a green card from the pile and read it. After reading it, they lay it down, face up.
The remaining players choose one of their red cards to play. They place their red card, face down, in front of the judge. Once everybody, except the judge, has played a red card, the judge will read the green card again. After reading the green card, the judge will read through all of the red cards the other players gave. The judge will choose which of the red cards they liked the best. The player whose card was picked, gets the green card. They keep the green card next to them for the remainder of the game.
Typically, the first person to collect seven green cards wins. However, we play it a little differently in my family. We keep playing until we’re ready to stop. When my family and I are done playing, we count all of our green cards. The player that collects the most green cards at the end of the game, wins!

Now, here is something that might be new to most people. My family and I look at our green cards and determine that’s what our personality type is. For example, if I collected the green cards that say:
- Easy
- Fake
- Witty
- Inspirational
- Worldly
All of those cards would basically describe me and my personality. Well, it would describe me, and my personality based on the game. My family and I find it amusing and funny whenever we read our green cards. Has anybody else tried this? If you haven’t, give it a try some time. I don’t know about you, but I think it makes the game a little more interesting.
Playing this game with family, may cause some serious laughter. It may also surprise you. There might be times when a relative will play a card that you would least expect. I can give you an example of what I mean. We were having a family gathering for a birthday or one of the holidays when we played this game. The green card had the word, “exciting”.
Everyone played their best red card for that word. The judge read all the red cards out loud. There was one red card that had the answer, “my bathroom”. Needless to say, EVERYBODY busted out laughing. It’s safe to say that “my bathroom” was the winner for the green card that said, “exciting”.
That card was played YEARS ago. To this day, it’s still the best round of “Apples to Apples” my family and I have ever played. So, what do these cards say about you? It’s a game, so remember to have fun.
Thanks for joining me. I hope you all have a great week. I look forward to seeing you all again soon. Take care.
